Tadleigh (/tadleigh / [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Large Town located in Icebeach Dutchy, Tuhate Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Tadleigh is derived from the Sylvin language, as Tadleigh was founded by Srehzez Sheppard, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Tadleigh has a yearly average temperature of 17°C (62°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a cool 19°C (66°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 15°C (59°F). Tadleigh receives an average of 274 cm/y (107 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Tadleigh covers an area of nearly 7 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 1308 m (4291 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Tadleigh was founded durring the late 14th century in spring of the year 1280, by Srehzez Sheppard. The establishment of Tadleigh suffered from many setbacks, delays, and obsticles, most notably a group of Tadleigh which required millitary assistance exterminate before the community could finish being built.

Tadleigh was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Tadleigh is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature masoned stone construction which prominantly features pointed arches, pointed ribbed vault cielings, flying buttress', and window tracery all of which share a simmilar gemoetetic patern halfway between organic and inorganic in design formaing a very distinct aesthetically integrated style. BUildings tend to reach for the havens, and more expencive homes are easily identified by their floor count as well as the addition of decorative features intigrated into the building's design such as statues, gargoyals, and embelished joinery.

Tadleigh is buildings are located arround a single crampt packed earth mainstreet which forms a clockwise spiral to give the town a over all circular shape. The town has a defencive wall made from querried stone. The wall is equipped with a full set of battlments but the nature of its construction methodology leaves it somewhat vulnerable to siege equipment. That said, the town is well defended against anything short of an army. The cost-cutting-focused defences has suffered a visible ammount of structural damage, leaving them effectivly useless. One can't help but wonder why the has not yet effected repairs.

A look around Tadleigh makes it abundantly clear the town suffered something horrible some time ago. It's as if the town itself is depressed. Smiles are few, cheer is nowhere to be had. Everyone quietly goes about their daily business not looking anyone in the eye.

Civic Infrastructure

Tadleigh has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Tadleigh . They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Tadleigh 's parks.

Tadleigh has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Tadleigh .

Tadleigh has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Tadleigh has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Tadleigh has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Tadleigh 's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Tadleigh possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Large Town. Tadleigh 's grid is powered by mana accumulators.

Tadleigh 's old civil lighting system was converted to Galvanic Lamps recently, and expanded to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Tadleigh has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Tadleigh 's natural decorations nor waterways.

Tadleigh has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Tadleigh has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Tadleigh has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Tadleigh 's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is which made use of the classical orders and mathematically precise ratios of height and width combined with a desire for symmetry, proportion, and harmony. It used columns, pediments, arches and domes are imaginatively in buildings of all types. Decorative features were seen as largely unnecessary as the sheer beauty of the structure itself was often close to art. However, many buildings with large ceiling spaces had their ceilings decorated with elaborate paintings, simply because the large flat spaces could feel wasted.

Due to the actions of local Kami, spring is long in Tadleigh .

The Ifrit near Tadleigh are known to be quite timid.

Tadleigh 's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in winter and involves square dance to channel Necromancy energies of tier 3 via guttural bellowing.

Old patterns of authority and wealth are being disrupted, and the old gentry are unlikely to be pleased about it. They may be trying to take over the industry, or they may have been the ones to enable it in the first place and are using it to crush the life out of any rival power bases. Outsiders might be playing a major role as well, and it could be they plot to siphon off the profits.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century the Kami spared the town from an attack. One of Tadleigh 's local festivals commemorates this miracle.
